Perspective 2011

“Truth, in its essence, is un-truth” (Martin Heidegger, The origin of the work of art, p. 179)
When I read this sentence, I imagined the Mobius strip. In the Mobius strip, there is no boundary between outside and inside.

Actually, we never know what the essence of truth is. Jacques Lacan mentioned that we can realise only outside of the essence when someone shows inside the subject. That is, the inside is also outside, and it means the object is an obturator. (The Four Fundamental Concepts of Psycho-Analysis, 1977, pp. 147-8) If so, the text, “truth is un-truth”, seems like a truth even though it contains a paradox. For example, there was a box. I wanted to see inside of the box. So, I tried to open the box. When I opened it, the inside was disappeared. I think, the essence of truth is like that.

We keep trying to find a truth of something through many ways. However, I felt that there is only perspective. It means a point of view.

 999 or 666

Which numbers are in this picture? Someone thinks it is ‘999’, which is emergency call number. The other thinks it is ‘666’, devil’s number. Likewise, we have a different point of view when we saw something. That picture is never changed. Actually, it is also a part of point of view, which is made by human, that the figure is perceived as a number.

If the essence does not change itself exactly, it is only the problem of its characteristics. The characteristics depend on that how we perceive and recognise a thing. Therefore, it can be said that truth is un-truth or un-truth is truth. Because, I think the truth is a concept as an outer skin, is a man-made, to find the real truth. Moreover, the real truth is also the outer skin of what we never know. Only perspective exists..

Idea sketches (early 2011)

‘Every object is the mirror of all others.’ (Merleau-Ponty)

‘In reality, the other is not shut up inside my perspective of the world, because it slips spontaneously into the other’s, and because both are brought together in the one single world in which we all participate as anonymous subjects of perception.’ (Merleau-Ponty)

If I were everything that you think,

If I were everything that you feel,

If I were everything that you love,

I will be everything that you have.

You are you and I am me.

You are there and I am here.

You are not here and I am not there.

You are me and I am you.

You are here and I am there.

You are not there and I am not here.
